FAQ
1. WHEN ARE TICKETS WRITTEN?
Regulations are enforced 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. A ticket may be written at any time.
2. HOW DO I APPEAL A TICKET?
An appeal form must be filled out and submitted to Parking & Transportation Services, Building 52, within 14 calendar days from the date the ticket is issued.
3. HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO PAY?
Tickets must be paid within 14 calendar days from the date the citation is issued.
4. WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I DON'T PAY MY CAMPUS PARKING TICKET?
If you do not pay your ticket within 14 calendar days, you will be charged a $10 late fee. If we have an address, we will send you a letter to remind you of your debt. We will also place a hold on your registration, grades, and transcripts. If you have three or more overdue citations or get nine tickets in a calendar year, you will go on our "Boot" list. When your car is booted, it will be immobilized on campus until all citations are paid. An additional $50 boot fee will be added to your total fee. After 20 calendar days, if you have not paid your citation and boot fee, the vehicle may be towed off campus.
5. DO I REALLY NEED A DECAL/PERMIT IF I PARK IN THE OUTER LOTS?
Every vehicle parked on campus must display a valid decal or permit, no matter where you park. The only exception is a visitor attending an event at the University Center.
6. CAN I PARK IN RESERVED AREAS?
Only if you have a special parking decal/permit that is available to faculty and staff.
7. CAN I PARK IN THE DIRT?
No, only in areas that are marked for parking.
8. IS IT OK IF I TAPE MY DECAL TO MY CAR? I DON'T WANT TO STICK THE DECAL ON MY NEW CAR.
No. Your decal is considered valid only if it is permanently affixed with its own adhesive backing. The decal must be affixed to the driver's side of the windshield. If your decal isn't permanently affixed, you will be ticketed for Improper Display of Decal. An option to consider is purchasing a hanging permit, which is transferable to any car you want to use.
9. DO I NEED A PARKING PASS ON THE WEEKENDS?
On most weekends, a pass is not required. The exception is during special events when permits are being sold.
10. HOW MUCH IS A DAILY PERMIT?
$3.00 per day, good for that calendar day only.
11. WHAT IF I GIVE OR SELL MY DECAL/PERMIT TO A FRIEND?
The decal will still be registered to you, and any unpaid tickets will be your responsibility.
12. WHAT IF I DRIVE A DIFFERENT CAR?
A hanging permit is transferable. If you have an affixed decal, you can come by Parking Services for a temporary pass for the day as long as the decal is registered in your name.
13. WHAT IF I BUY A NEW CAR?
A hanging permit is transferable. An affixed decal must be removed from the vehicle and returned to Parking Services. A replacement decal will cost $10.00.
14. WHAT ABOUT LOST OR STOLEN DECALS/PERMITS?
Please file a report with the Police Department and Parking Services so we can track the decal/permit. Stolen decals/permits will be replaced for a fee of $10.00 if a Police report stating that the decal/permit was stolen is provided to Parking Services. Lost decals/permits are not replaced and a new one must be purchased at full cost.
15. WHAT IF THERE IS NO PLACE TO PARK?
There are over 8,000 legal parking spaces on campus with the addition of Lots 18 and 53. Unfortunately, not all of them could be located close to campus buildings; but now there is a convenient Shuttle. If you arrive early, you can usually locate a space close to your destination. Parking lots closest to the buildings usually fill up by 10 a.m., earlier on Monday through Thursday. If you arrive later, you'll get a space in these lots only if you catch someone leaving.
16. IF I RECEIVE A PARKING TICKET, CAN I LET MY PARENTS, SPOUSE, ETC., COMMUNICATE WITH PARKING & TRANSPORTATION SERVICES AND UNIVERSITY OFFICIALS ON MY BEHALF?
Please be advised that pursuant to confidentiality laws, Parking & Transportation Services and other University officials can only communicate with the student who has been issued the traffic citation.
