Purchase Permits |
What students need to know after they buy a permit.Owning a permit isn’t good enough. You must display your hanging permit on the front rearview mirror with the permit number visible and facing out or permanently affix your decal to the lower, driver-side corner of the front windshield. (For safety's sake, take the hanging permit down before you drive off.) Common sense will tell you that you can’t park on the grass or in a spot that is specially marked. If you don’t display your permit correctly or park in a space for which you do not have a permit, count on getting a ticket. If you receive a ticket, deal with it right away. Click here for fines and late fees. Pay your ticket within 14 days, really. Pay your ticket and that’s that. Don’t pay it within 14 calendar days, add a $10 fine to the citation amount. Ignore even one ticket and some bad things start to happen, like not being able to register for classes or having your records held so you can’t graduate or get a transcript for grad school. You can pay your ticket by check or cash at the Cashier's office in Daniel Hall, Building 1, or by check in the yellow envelope you received with your ticket or online. Don’t get the boot. Collect three unpaid citations or nine tickets in a year and your vehicle will likely be booted and maybe even towed – at your expense. Your vehicle may also be booted or towed if you park in a no parking zone, service area, fire lane, Lot 7, a Reserved, Restricted or disability space or if you obstruct traffic and create a safety hazard. This definitely applies to vehicles displaying stolen, forged or lost permits. Click here for complete regulations. The Appeals Process Occasionally mistakes are made. You can appeal your citation by submitting an Appeal Form within 14 calendar days. Click here to download the form or stop by the Parking & Transportation Services office.
